9 Days Botswana’s Nxai Pan, Delta & Kwando

Botswana has two different environments: the huge fossil pan system, which includes the otherworldly Nxai Pan, and the Okavango Delta, the world’s biggest interior wetland. On this 9-day vacation, you will see each of these extremely distinct environments with classic game drives, nature walks, and boating excursions.
Beginning at Nxai Pan, you will spend two nights in an eco-friendly resort surrounded by grasslands and desert animals. From there, you’ll fly to Kwara in the Okavango Delta, where you’ll spend three nights in a small camp with breathtaking views of the Kwara Lagoon.
Your final three nights in Africa will be spent at Kwando Lagoon Camp, a luxurious tented camp on the Kwando River in the famed Linyanti Concession.
It is possible to reserve a private game-drive vehicle for you and your party’s exclusive usage, allowing you to explore Botswana at your own speed and spend as much time as you like at sightings.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Days 1-3: Nxai Pan National Park

You and your family will meet your safari representative in Maun, Botswana’s second city and the gateway to the country’s northern regions, for the short flight by light aircraft to Nxai Pan National Park, a one-of-a-kind Kalahari reserve that includes ancient pan systems that were once the floors of prehistoric lakes, as well as classic African savannah and grasslands.
Nxai Pan is well-known for its exceptional sightings of predators like as brown hyena, black-backed jackal, lion, and, if you’re lucky, cheetah. During the Green Season, which lasts from November to April, the region comes alive with hundreds of bird species, making it a twitcher’s paradise.
There are nine thatched suites in the camp, each with a private shower and an outside observation terrace. The thatch is amazingly responsive to Botswana’s changing temperatures, keeping the rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

You will be escorted on nature walks, mokoro rides, and birding excursions in between game drives in custom-built cars with a knowledgeable guide-and-tracker team. Back at camp, relax on your verandah with an iced drink and a pair of binoculars, or have a refreshing dip in the enormous pool in the lodge’s shared lounge and dining area. A journey to visit ‘Baines’ Baobabs’, a cluster of seven of these giant trees that painter Thomas Baines slept under and captured on canvas in 1862, is a memorable event.
These ‘upside-down trees,’ which appear to have roots sprouting into the sky, are so strong and durable that elephants may gouge them badly.

Day 1-3

Days 3-6: The Okavango Delta

After saying your goodbyes to the welcoming personnel at Nxai Pan, you will be transported to the nearest airfield for the short journey by light aircraft to the Kwara Concession in the Okavango Delta. The ground under you shifts from the Kalahari’s pans and grasslands to the Okavango’s pools, wallows, islands, and lagoons.
After landing, you will be taken to Kwara Camp. Due to its location in a concession, you are unlikely to encounter many other guests or cars, and you are likely to get good sightings all to yourself. The camp has only eight tents, all of which have stunning views of the Kwara Lagoon.
The Delta is a mokoro nation, and a tour on the rivers in one of these dug-out canoes will undoubtedly be one of your holiday highlights. Look out for small colourful reed frogs, single African fish eagles calling, and even elephants or hippos crossing in the distance as you paddle peacefully along.
Aside from safari activities such as game drives, Kwara includes a hide where extremely keen photographers may view local animals covertly. You will, of course, be able to watch ‘Bush TV’ from the comfort of your own deck or solar-heated outdoor shower.

Day 3-6

Days 6-9: The Linyanti Channel

Your baggage will be gathered after a delicious breakfast served around the campfire for the short flight to the Kwando River in the Linyanti Channel, which is famed for thrilling sightings of endangered African wild dogs.
Eight tents are set up under mature marula and ebony trees to give shade during the midday heat. All of the typical safari activities, including excellent birding, are available once more. The region is well-known for its raptors, and game watching during the dry season (from May to October) is among the greatest in Southern Africa.
Your final evening may be spent relaxing on a sunset cruise, the air turning a rosy peach as the sun sets over the western horizon. Pack your belongings, reflect on the last eight days, and refuel with a final bush breakfast before returning to the airfield for your return flight to Maun.
